How the battery vent plug works

The battery vent plug is an important component in the battery system. Its main job is to maintain the balance of gas pressure inside the battery to ensure that the gas generated by the battery during the charging and discharging process can be properly released or absorbed, thereby ensuring the safe operation of the battery.
Chemical reaction produces gas: During the charging and discharging process of the battery, a chemical reaction occurs that causes the production of gas, usually hydrogen, in the electrolyte. For example, in a lead-acid battery, a water electrolysis reaction occurs during charging, producing hydrogen and oxygen. If these gases accumulate too much in the battery, they may cause the gas pressure to increase, causing safety hazards such as battery explosion or leakage.
Automatically adjusts gas pressure: Battery vent plugs are designed to prevent excessive buildup by automatically adjusting gas pressure. The inside of the vent plug usually contains components such as springs, valves and seals. When the gas pressure inside the battery increases, the valve of the vent plug opens, allowing the gas to flow out. Conversely, when the gas pressure drops, the valve of the vent plug closes, preventing outside air from entering.
Prevent external substances from entering: The battery vent plug is also dustproof and waterproof. It prevents external dust, moisture or other contaminants from entering the inside of the battery through specially designed valves and filters. This helps keep the interior of the battery clean and protects the chemical reactions inside the battery from external interference.
Closable Design: Some battery vent plugs are designed to be closable, allowing manual control of the release and entry of gases when needed. This design allows operators to flexibly adjust the status of the vent plug to better meet the needs of specific applications.
